For centuries, oregano has been known as one of the most potent and beneficial essential oils. Oregano can be found in cookbooks and spice racks around the world, as its versatile flavor complements a variety of cuisines. The main chemical component of oregano is carvacrol, a phenol, which makes it one of the most versatile and potent essential oils. Oregano is extracted from the fragrant leaves of the oregano plant (Origanum vulgare). When used externally, oregano should be diluted with a carrier oil.

Cooking with oregano

Essential oils are very potent compared to spice powders, spices, or other flavorings, so even the smallest amount can add a bold flavor to your dish. When using oregano in cooking, the best way to do this is with the toothpick method: Dip the tip of a clean toothpick into the bottle of essential oil and stir the toothpick into your ingredients. After stirring the toothpick into your dish, taste to see if more oil is needed.

Recommendation

  • In Italian dishes, replace one tablespoon of dry oregano with one drop of oregano essential oil
  • Add a drop of essential oil instead of dried oregano to pasta sauce, pizza sauce or on a roast
  • For a warming massage, mix the essential oils of oregano and peppermint in combination with carrier oil
  • Make your own hand soap from Castile liquid soap, water, and a few drops of oregano

Application


Aromatic : Use 3 – 4 drops in the diffuser of your choice.

Use as a food additive : Dilute one drop with 125 ml of liquid.

Topical : For massage, mix 5 drops with 10 ml of carrier oil. For bathing, mix 5 drops with 5 ml of carrier oil. For fragrance, mix 1 drop with 10 drops of carrier oil.


Instructions for safe use

Use only diluted. Do not use more than one drop per day. Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant or under medical supervision, please consult your physician. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, face, sensitive areas, and mucous membranes. In case of skin contact, dilute generously with a carrier oil.
